The Art of Movement
Sunday Oct 15, 9am-5pm
Learn a more conscious way to move during exercise to create strength, function and vibrancy in your body and your life.
About the class
The mind and the body are not two separate entities—although they are often treated that way. Physical health and emotional health are intimately intertwined in what’s known as the mind-body connection. If you’ve ever felt your stomach tighten up when you were anxious you’ve experienced the mind-body connection.
In this one day workshop, Kelsey and Dima address the critical need for this mind body connection during exercise. Whether you're taking a yoga class or weight training or playing a particular sport, we will teach you a superior way to create strength and vibrancy in your body through the art of movement.
The Details
We introduce you to our basic formula for the art of movement, which includes: deliberate action, conscious breathing and the felt sense:
Deliberate Action: We teach you how to transition from moving with automaticity to moving from a conscious and deliberate way in conjunction with breathing.
Conscious Breathing: If you’re breathing effectively, your breath will be smooth, steady, and controlled. We work with you to identify areas where you are constricting your breathing and limiting yourself from getting enough air without straining.
The felt sense: The felt sense is a term used to describe the changes that our internal landscape goes through when it comes to our senses, emotions, and energy. We help you develop the felt sense so that your focus shifts from your external environment to your internal experience. We also show you how to use the felt sense to feel each movement as it happens and recruit specific muscles while maintaining calm in your nervous system.
In addition to our basic formula, we share our basic pillars for enhancing overall health and examine your regular activity to encourage a deeper understanding of your physical body. We also teach you specific movement exercises to address your unique physical needs and reset your system. These practices will help prevent future injury and maximize function and longevity. If you’re a yoga teacher we teach you how to incorporate these options within your yoga sequence to add function and creativity to your classes.
